Styles

The Styles tab is where you edit how a caption looks on the timeline: font, color, stroke, spacing, alignment, and the built-in style library.

• After Effects batch-applies text styles and adds align options
• Premiere opens Propertiesin this tab, with the caption MoGRT's controls for text and stroke color, leading, shadows, word and line highlights, boxes, and glow. Changes go to the caption clips on your track

Both hosts control transform properties and text styles.

1. Fonts: Search any font installed on your computer or synced from Adobe Fonts. Recent and favorite fonts are remembered, or roll a random one.

2. Color and stroke: Set the text fill, and add a stroke with its own color and width.

3. Spacing and paragraph: Control leading (line height), and set paragraph alignment.

4. Style library: Apply ready-made styles from the gallery, and save your own to User Styles (After Effects).

5. Transform: Set position and scale for the caption text from the same tab.

Stack styles, or bake them

Styles, animations, and effects are separate libraries, so applying one does not discard another. Two controls in After Effects decide how they layer.

1. Add on Top (After Effects): by default, clicking a style replaces the one already on the caption. Tick Add on Top, at the right of the row under the style gallery, to layer the new style over the old one and build a look from two or three library styles.

   • The Effects tab has its own Add on Top under its Options caret, already on, so effects stack rather than replace each other
   • The Motion tab does the same with Clean Keyframes Before Applying, on by default. Untick it to add an animation over the keyframes already there. It works in Premiere too

2. Flatten (After Effects): a style is applied through a small control on the Motion Control layer that every caption reads, which is why one click updates a whole composition. Flatten writes those colours into each caption layer and removes the control.

   • It collapses the colour and stroke style only. Your animation, keyframes, and caption structure are untouched
   • Use it to edit one caption's colour by hand in After Effects' Character panel, which the shared control would otherwise override
   • Nothing is lost. It is one undo step, and clicking any style afterwards rebuilds the control
