1. Introduction
MotionCaption helps you create animated captions and social video inside Adobe After Effects and Premiere. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use MotionCaption, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We aim to keep this page clear and practical so you can quickly see what matters. If anything is unclear, you can contact us using the details at the end of this policy.
2. Scope of This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we process in connection with:
- the MotionCaption marketing website
- the MotionCaption user dashboard and account portal
- free trials, one time purchase licenses, subscriptions and team accounts
- the MotionCaption After Effects extension
- the MotionCaption Premiere extension
- support, feedback and other direct communications with us
- optional community or preset sharing functionality, if you choose to use it
- AI powered features we provide, including transcription, translation, caption styling tools and other caption related assistants
This Privacy Policy does not apply to third party websites, products or services that we do not control, even if they are linked from or used with MotionCaption. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies.
3. Information we collect
We collect information that you choose to give us and information that is created automatically when you use MotionCaption.
- Account and contact information. When you sign up, start a trial, or buy MotionCaption, we may collect your name, email address, country, and account credentials.
- Google sign-in information. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares basic profile information with us, specifically your name, email address, and Google account identifier. See the Google sign-in section below for how we use and limit this data.
- Billing information. Payments are processed by third party providers such as Stripe. We receive limited billing details such as the last four digits of a card, subscription status, plan, and invoices, not your full card number.
- Extension usage and performance data. The extension may send basic technical and usage data such as MotionCaption version, host app and OS version, error reports, feature usage and aggregated counts of the most used presets. This helps us understand which tools are used most and where problems appear so we can improve stability and workflows. Aggregated preset usage may also be used to power the Popular section in the extension that all users can see. This section shows only overall popularity, not who used a preset or which specific project it was used in.
- Content you process with MotionCaption. When you use cloud AI features, audio, text and generated captions are sent to trusted AI providers for transcription, translation and related processing. For cloud transcription today we use AssemblyAI as a processor. Audio you send through these features is stored in our AssemblyAI account for a limited time while processing and may later expire from their dashboard, while associated text transcripts can remain visible in that dashboard. We do not use your audio or transcripts for advertising or to sell to third parties, and access to this content is limited to people who need it to operate and support the service. Local transcription modes run on your own device and do not send audio to our servers for that operation.
- Support and communications. If you contact us or fill out a form, we collect the information you submit and any follow up messages so we can respond to you and keep a record of the request.
- Website and analytics data. When you visit the MotionCaption website, we collect aggregated usage information such as pages you view, referrer URL, approximate location based on IP address, browser type and device information. Our analytics are cookieless. They do not store a cookie or a persistent identifier on your device, and they do not track you across other websites.
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain and improve MotionCaption and related services.
- To activate licenses, enforce plan limits and prevent obvious abuse or fraud.
- To process purchases, manage subscriptions and provide billing records.
- To understand how the extension and website are used, including which presets and tools are used most, so we can improve performance and user experience and to power the Popular section in the extension using aggregated preset usage data.
- To respond to support requests and communicate about important changes to the product or your account.
- To monitor and protect the security of the Services and to comply with legal obligations.
5. Google sign-in
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares basic profile information with us, specifically your name, email address, and Google account identifier. We use this information only to create and authenticate your MotionCaption account and to provide the features you ask for.
MotionCaption's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- We use Google sign-in data only to provide and secure account login and the features you request.
- We do not sell Google user data.
- We do not transfer Google user data to others except as needed to provide the service, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with appropriate safeguards.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising.
- We limit human access to this data, except for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or where you give us your consent.
You can revoke MotionCaption's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
6. AI processing
Cloud AI features may process uploaded text or audio. Depending on your settings and plan, we may rely on third party AI providers to deliver these features. For cloud transcription today this includes AssemblyAI, which stores audio and transcripts in our account while they are processed and may later expire audio from its dashboard while keeping text transcripts visible. AssemblyAI handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy, which you can review at assemblyai.com/legal/privacy. We use this processing only to provide MotionCaption features, to keep the service reliable and secure, and to comply with legal obligations. Local transcription modes run on your own machine and are designed not to send audio to our servers for that task.
7. How your information is protected
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. These measures include access controls, encryption in transit where appropriate, and limiting access to personal data to people who need it for their work.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
We keep cookie use on the MotionCaption website to a minimum. We use no advertising cookies and no cookie-based analytics, which is why the site does not ask you to accept cookies.
Essential cookies
These cookies are necessary for the website to work. They keep you signed in, secure your session, protect our forms against abuse, and support checkout. They are set by us and by the providers that run those features, such as Supabase for authentication, Stripe for payments and Cloudflare Turnstile for form protection. Without them, login, the account area and purchases do not work.
Analytics without cookies
We measure site traffic with Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. They record page views and page performance in aggregate. They set no cookies, they do not assign a persistent identifier to your device, and they cannot follow you to other websites. We use this only to see which pages are visited and to fix issues.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent to your device. If you block essential cookies, login, the account area and checkout will not work correctly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy and cookie policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or to comply with applicable laws. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and may provide additional notice in the product or by email where appropriate.
