TextMerge

Split and merge text layers

Split one text layer into characters, words, or lines, each keeping the position it had on screen. Merge them back into a single layer whenever you want.

TextMerge for After Effects

What it does

  • Separate a text layer by character, word, or line
  • Merge many text layers back into one
  • Assemble in the order you choose: top to bottom, bottom to top, In Point, or selection order
  • Group pieces onto the same line by a vertical range instead of an exact Y
  • Increase or decrease spacing across the separated pieces
  • Parent the separated layers to a new null
  • Merge with Source Text keyframes at each layer's In Point, subtitle style
  • Text animators, effects, and layer styles carry over

Install

Two ways to add a script

Run it once, or install it for good. Either way it takes about a minute.

  1. 1

Move the .jsx file into your ScriptUI Panels folder

Windows: Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects [version]\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels. macOS: /Applications/Adobe After Effects [version]/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels.

  2. 2

    Restart After Effects

The script appears at the bottom of the Window menu, and it docks like any other panel.

OR RUN IT
  1. 1

    Run it once without installing

In After Effects, use File → Scripts → Run Script File, and choose the .jsx.
